When you order such a t-shirt, you should also learn how to care for it well so that it lasts longs without becoming damaged. Following are some tips on how to care for screen-printed t-shirts.
WASH THE T-SHIRT WITH COLD WATER
Always wash the t-shirt with cold water. Do not use hot water for washing it because it is harsh on the t-shirt. Cold water cleans the t-shirt without causing strain on the shirt. It also saves electricity bill.
USE MILD AND GENTLE DETERGENTS
If you have a screen printing tshirt, avoid using bleach and detergents with harsh and strong ingredients for washing. Harsh products can damage the fabric and design.
Get rid of spots on the t-shirt by applying stain remover to the fabric. Mild and gentle detergents are good for washing the t-shirt.
TURN THE T-SHIRT INSIDE OUT WHILE WASHING
Do not wash the t-shirt from the right side or front side. Turn the shirt inside out to the wrong side and then wash it.
This prevents fading of the screen printing design. Try to wash the t-shirt with hand and use the washing machine less. This stops strain on the ink.
It is especially important to wash the t-shirt for the first two times by using cold water. Avoid using a washing machine for the initial washes and wash the shirt with your hands.
TURN THE T-SHIRT INSIDE OUT WHILE IRONING
Just as it is important to turn the t-shirt inside out during washing, it is important to do this also when you are ironing the t-shirt. Turn the t-shirt to the wrong side and then iron it.
It helps in preventing the imprint of the screen-printing from being damaged. The t-shirt lasts long when you iron it placing the fabric between another two layers of fabrics. Do not iron the t-shirt by using the steam and moisture with the iron.
WASH DARK COLORED T-SHIRTS SEPARATE FROM LIGHTER T-SHIRTS
Wash t-shirts of different colors separately so that the color of dark fabric doesn’t leak and steep into lighter shade fabrics. If you wash a white t-shirt with another clothe of red color, the red color can leak into the white fabric.
Avoid doing this mistake. Wash fabric of similar colors together and do not mix them with other color fabrics.
AIR DRY THE T-SHIRT
For a screen printing tshirt, you should not dry it in a dryer as the heat can damage the design. You should dry the shirt naturally in the air outside in the sun for preventing the fabric from damage and shrinking.
If you still want to use the dryer, use it on low heat setting. Another option is to dry it half only in the dryer and then keep it outside in the sun for drying.
DRY CLEAN WITH CARE
It is important to practice caution and care while dry cleaning screen printed tshirts. The dark colored t-shirts should be dry cleaned very carefully.
Another precaution that is important to follow is not to apply pre-spotting agents to the t-shirt for the purpose of dry cleaning.
